Accounting for non-profits, by a non-profit
Most accounting firms are organized as partnerships. The partners take home a piece of the profits that the company earns. They also have to pay taxes on the profits of the company. I chose to organize The Non-Profit Accounting Project as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. What does this mean for you, my client?
First, I have walked a mile in your shoes. The challenges you face are the same challenges I face. I get it!
Second, because the company is non-profit, it does not need to pay taxes on any profit. That means that I can pass those reduced costs on to you in the form of lower fees.
Third, because I am not a “partner”, I do not receive a portion of the profits. I can be paid a reasonable wage or salary for our time, but you can be certain that your fees are not going to pay a partner who is not actively working on your accounting.
Bottom line, you will get better bookkeeping and accounting for a lower price.
